See my earlier comment (somewhere in the thread). In THE NORM, I also used upper/lowercase for some speech balloons (esp. if they are under a VoiceOver caption). And in THAT case I follow the rules of title case except on the lowercase “n,” I make that a capital “N” shape instead — but with the correct x-height. Again, just goofy rule breaking because he’s THe NORM.

It’s an “I” (eye). John Robie, the Cat. In my lettering (since THE NORM started), I used the ALL CAPS for hand lettering as do most all cartoonists, but I made the “E” shape an “e” shape because it added some visual fun. I still do it.

I always like the double meaning of the film title… in the end, Robie is the one that gets caught IN LOVE’S WEB

That water color is not the norm. Norm is the one on the left…

I need to finish these before a glass of wine. The typos lately are numerous!

Just the full shot, not the tracking shots.

Just this week, I watched the first version of that film, 1939, (titled Love Affair) directed by Leo McCarey, as well. It starred Irene Dunne and Charles Boyer. The 35mm print was lost for over 50 years and it’s just been restored. Worth a viewing!
