My parents did the same thing. We lived in a 130 year old farmhouse built on a stacked rock cellar foundation. It was dark, dank and spooky. As time went on, my brothers built a slot-car track down there but the humidity finally wreaked it. As we boys gradually moved away, my dad fixed the basement up, put in a humidifier, poured a cement floor…and sold the house! I never did see it finished. O well….
I came to ipods late in the game. I was able to load mine with music I borrowed from my local library. Now that’s all changed and it seems they have gone the way of cassettes.
I volunteer at my library’s book store. We have a Home Improvement section that just gathers dust…old Sunset project books, the classic Reader Digest big blue book of home repairs….
